walloped over long-on and India win! Fabulous strike from Washington in Florida! Short of length, angling in and he just slapped it cross-batted with an air of disdain. Held his shape briefly and then put it when he intended it to play.
West Indies vs India, 1st T20I at Lauderhill, WI v IND, Aug 03 2019 - Match Result
Thank you for joining us. Look forward to your company on Sunday for the second T20I. Same time, morning start in Florida. Night start in India. Hint of rain around, but we should be good to start. Hopefully a better wicket and more runs are in store? Well, I quite enjoyed this scrap and wouldn't mind another one. Until then, this is Shashank Kishore signing out on behalf of Varun Shetty. Cheers
If you're just tuning in, here's Varun Shetty with the match bulletin. Has everything you need to know to get up to speed and prepare you for Super Sunday.
1.40pm Far from a walk in the park for India, but their batting depth has helped them prevail. On a sticky wicket, you always felt West Indies needed at least 130. The second half proved just that. None of the Indian batsmen managed to convert their start and bat through, but the good work by Navdeep Saini, Krunal Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja with the ball left them with fewer runs than they would've expected to chase. And just how did West Indies manage the amount of runs they did? Courtesy the experience of Kieron Pollard, the only batsman to dig in to make a formidable score. The presentation is coming up shortly. Don't go away.
Virat Kohli: Bowling and fielding right up there, the pitch wasn't great. With the rain around, you couldn't do much, I guess. They did well to start the game on time. Bowlers were on top throughout, variations were superb. Navdeep is from Delhi, he's come a long way. Plays the IPL as well, had a great season. Raw talent, hardly any bowlers who can bowl 150 clicks, hopefully he builds on from here. We would've liked to chase it four down, but we wanted to take risks and take the scoreboard moving. As the ball got older, strike rotation became key. It's just about putting in solid performance, ensure the guys who play contribute in some way or the other.
Debutant Navdeep Saini is Man of the Match for his three-for.
Carlos Brathwaite: Once again don't think we assessed conditions, kudos to Kieron coming back into the team. He showed his experience. Had we made 130, it would've been a different game. We batted ourselves out of the game. We have to play positively. The message will continue to be to keep intent, but we need to have better shot selection and awareness. Sunil's four overs very important, he showed his experience, brought us back into the game. Great bowling effort.
Sunil Narine is being interviewed by the host broadcasters: "Always good to be back in maroon. Being able to perform for the country is a proud moment. Fitness is there, finger is now 100%. T20 I'm trying to stay on for as long as I can. Let's see how it goes. We still have to play positively, start well in the Powerplay, whether we're batting or bowling. We've to start winning matches. No new thing (innovation with the ball) at the moment, just enjoying my cricket. Hopefully you can see good performances in the near future."
attempted yorker that turns into a full toss, bunted to point
Keemo from around the stumps
gets well forward and defends back towards the bowler
edged, races to third man who is fine
right into the blockhole, squeezed back
on the pads, flicked to deep square
slower and fuller on the stumps, gets a leading edge that rolls to point
slower length ball angling in, tucked to fine leg
the off-stump is knocked back! It's the late swing that has done the trick. Angles this in full from wide of the crease, Krunal is looking to work it through midwicket but then the ball wickedly moves away off the seam to square him up and hit the top of middle
can't get much bat on this pull, rolls to short fine leg
full toss, he reaches out to squeeze this to third man
Deenadhayal Sub: "In 2016, the opening game saw 200 runs in each innings and 3 years later, both teams cant make it to 200 collectively. Has this pitch changed completely? "
controls this pull to midwicket
drives this full ball to deep cover
eased to long-off
nearly dragged on! Was aware this was about to roll back and quickly tried to get his bat to block the path of the ball. Luckily the ball stopped as it spun around for a bit. Went for a big booming drive, cramped for room, length a touch too full too.
pulled imperiously this time, he's clobbered this or what? Acres of open space at seep square. This sat up nicely, not much pace this time from Oshane. For all that effort, the output was far from desired and Krunal was ready to take full toll
eased with the angle to fine leg
picks the length early and hammers this pull in front of square, clears Hetmyer at midwicket. Skipper Brathwaite runs across all the way from mid-on to pull it back at deep midwicket. Slow outfield because of the rain we had in the build-up to the game
driven firmly into the gap at deep cover, misfield too from Ewin Lewis. Clumsy. What should've been two is now three
slashed down to third man off a thick outside edge
Oshane back into the attack. Can he nip out another wicket here?
