all over. Yorker length on off, dug out to mid-wicket and Bangladesh notch up their first #CWC win in their history. It comes against Pakistan, similar to the way they did so in 1999
BAN Women vs PAK Women, 13th Match at Hamilton, Women's World Cup, Mar 14 2022 - Match Result
That's the end of our coverage for this game. There's England taking on South Africa in the other game. Do check that out. Also do read up on all the analysis and reaction from this game. Until next time, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator and scorer. Be well and take care.
Kapil Baldawa : "Poor approach and how can the team not look at the last game and improve on their error? After Mahroof was out, someone like Riaz or Sohail should have come and taken a hit for couple of overs.. If you are not scoring even after being well set, the fault lies with the set batter too"
Nigar Sultana: I cannot describe this in words. This is out first-ever win in World Cups. History we have made today. We are looking forward to carry this momentum throughout the tournament. I have seen two matches over here, where the spinners dominate here, I thought if she [Salma Khatun] could deliver her best, I could use her very well. We know Pakistan very well, we played each other so many times, in the qualifier also we beat them in the last over. Winning gives us the confidence and this is the momentum we always wanted, we have a good side and already improving, we know that we are a very capable team.
Bismah Maroof: It is very hard to digest, we were in the game, bad shots from the middle order cost us the game. Sidra was playing well, she will be disappointed she could not finish the game. Not really, the way we batted we were in the game, we should have chased it down. Two close games we did not win. We have to take some positives, move forward and try to come back harder in the next game.
Fahima Khatun: First I would like to thank the almighty. I'm always ready to play for my team and I was not nervous. I just bowled in the right areas and the success came. It was a very sporting wicket. I'm really excited and happy that I could perform for my team.
Fahima Khatun is the Player of the Match for her 3 wickets.
Pranay: "This is going to sting Pakistan real bad. Completely thrown away a dominant position."
Shoaib: "From 183/2 chasing 235 ... you have to say it was a choke under RRR pressure."
Jamil: "BD man's team also BEAT Pakistan in their first appearance in WC 1999.... Now BD Woman done it. What a day for Bangla TIGERS ..... "
5.54pm: A first #CWC for Bangladesh and a first win against Pakistan. No wonder they are overjoyed. A few jigs from the girls as well. But Pakistan have thrown this away. From 183/2, with 8 overs left, they inexplicably allowed the pressure to get to them to slip to 188/7 and in the end they lose by 9 runs. One has to feel for Sidra Ameen, she rode her luck to bring up a fine ton but the middle and lower order did not support her. Three first-ballers during that collapse as Fahima Khatun turned the game on its head with her legbreaks. The opening stand was 91 and then again a stand between Sidra and Bismah but during the middle overs there was a lot of dots played which built up the pressure. Bangladesh just kept on bowling to their field and were sharp in the field. Do stay tuned for the presentation...
Nashra comes down and pushes to the right of the bowler for a single
12 off 2 now. Long-off back now. Square leg in
slower outside off, dabbed to backward point
shortish outside off, Fatima cuts wide of backward point for a couple
tossed up outside off, driven hard to mid-off who fumbles and they don't come back for the second, really poor running. Nashra understandably is livid
Nashra comes down, but taps the length ball to the off-side
16 needed off the last over. A really herculean task. Nahida to finish things off
fullish outside off, Fatima cuts and misses
flat on middle, nudged to the square leg region
Fatima pulls across the line, gets a thick edge to the vacant mid-wicket region for a single
driven to cover, 18 off 9 now
thick leading-edge to backward point, the throw was high to the keeper, allows Fatima to get in with a dive
fullish outside off, Nashra dabs and misses
softly nudged to the leg-side for a single
Kapil Baldawa : "Captain came, played out dots after dots n then went. Why not send a gutter like Aliya after 1 down and ask her to get quick 20-25.. Pakistan had to think out of the box after last game's poor approach. If you can't chase 230 on a good track after being 90/0, you can't win much to be honest "
that was not necessary from Pakistan. Driven to the sweeper and Sidra comes back for the second, but the throw is flat on the bounce to the bowler who catches her short, no dive and Sidra is just short. Has to walk back disappointed. That should the game
Has Sidra run herself out? Run-out check sent upstairs. OUT.
tossed up full, driven in front of mid-off for a single
Rio: "Women's cricket reminds of ODI matches in the late 80s and early 90s, if the asking rate in above 6 an over in the last 15 overs then it's still anybody's game but in a little favour of the bowling team regardless of how many wickets in hand you have got."
pushed towards silly mid-off and Nashra gives the strike back
tossed up full outside off, Sidra gets across and sweeps to backward square for a single
tossed up outside off, defended with soft hands in front of point for a run
25 off 18 needed Nahida on now from around the wicket
nudged to backward square for a quick single, Nashra will have the strike
no reviews left for Pakistan but that's plumb anyway. Tossed up on off, Diana misses the paddle and is struck in front. Did not get outside the line nor was there bat. Salma roars in delight
