Once tagged as one of Ireland's most promising batting hopefuls of the last decade from junior level, Tyrone Kane's future in the Ireland men's side has become more dependent on his ability to threaten with the ball as a medium-pace allrounder. Kane was Ireland's leading run scorer at the 2012 U-19 World Cup in Australia and, after his exploits in the tournament, he was named captain of Ireland's U-19 side in 2013 during their failed bid to reach the 2014 edition of the world event held in the UAE.

Hailing from Merrion CC, a club in Dublin which has produced several Ireland internationals, Kane received his first senior call-up just ahead of the 2015 World T20 Qualifier during a pre-tournament series against Scotland. Early into his international career, he was being groomed as a potential option to replace the aging John Mooney as a trusted seamer who could add a few lusty blows late with the bat. Kane, however, only played two games in the Qualifier and was dropped after Ireland's shock defeat in Belfast to Papua New Guinea despite taking career-best figures of 3 for 19.

Kane has ever since hung around the fringes of the national set-up as a regular for Leinster Lightning in the Interprovincial domestic competition as well as being selected on several occasions for Ireland A and Ireland Wolves, the equivalent of the England Lions side. Despite not playing for Ireland in any format since his T20I debut in the summer of 2015, he was named in Ireland's squad for their inaugural men's Test against Pakistan in May 2018.
