Atse Buurman is a wicketkeeper-batsman who was initially deemed good enough by
the Dutch selectors to make the side on the strength of his batting alone. He struck 53 from 75 balls in Netherlands' game against India A to save his team's blushes after they had been reduced to 10 for 3 in the EurAsia Series in 2006, but has since concentrated on his 'keeping and took over the role of the side's first-choice gloveman after Jeroen Smits' retirement. Buurman was groomed by Netherlands cricket from a young age, coming through Under-15, -17, -19 and -23 sides, as well as the spell in the Netherlands A team, before he cemented a spot in the senior national side.
