WACA announces one-day tournament

The Western Australian Cricket Association today announced details of the Global One-day Provincial Cricket Tournament to be played at the WACA Ground from 29 March to 4 April 2001

The Western Australian Cricket Association today announced details of the Global One-day Provincial Cricket Tournament to be played at the WACA Ground from 29 March to 4 April 2001.
The announcement was made in conjunction with EventsCorp, who will be supporting the tournament as part of their 'Best on Earth in Perth' promotion, also launched today.
The tournament will feature the national one-day champion teams from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India from season 2000 or 2000-01.
The Western Warriors, WA's state cricket team, will compete as 1999-2000 Mercantile Mutual Cup champions. They will play a round robin tournament against India's Ranji Tournament winners, Mumbai, and yet to be decided winners of the Standard Bank Cup (South Africa) and Shell Cup (New Zealand).
"This unique event will provide a bridge between international matches and interstate or provincial fixtures," said WACA chairman, Mr Charles Fear.
"It will also provide a sneak preview of new talent as well as giving 'fringe' players the opportunity to experience conditions overseas."
A national broadcaster has been secured for the inaugural tournament.
The tournament will be played under standard ICC one-day international rules with a white cricket ball and coloured uniforms. All matches will be day/night fixtures played from 2.30pm to 10.15pm (WA time).
