15-Apr-2007
At Hobart, February 7, 2006. Sri Lanka won by 76 runs. Sri Lanka 5 pts. Toss: Sri Lanka.
The winners of this game would face Australia in the finals. Sri Lanka, now more rested than their opponents and at home on the sluggish Bellerive wicket, despatched the South Africans with a resounding victory. Their total was aided by three more wayward overs from Steyn, whose figures for the series now read 8-0-90-1. In reply, Smith managed his only international half-century of a difficult tour, but Vaas made early inroads to give the spinners a clear sight of victory. The supersub Bandara obliged by grabbing four wickets in five overs, while Muralitharan chimed in by bowling van der Wath, who had now faced two balls from Murali and been out to both.
Man of the Match: C. M. Bandara. Attendance: 4,226.
