At Chittagong Divisional Stadium, Chittagong, February 25, 2006. Sri Lanka won by 78 runs.
Toss: Bangladesh. One-day international debut: K. T. G. D. Prasad.
A fine sheet-anchor century from Sangakkara made the match and the series safe. He entered in
the first over, as Sri Lanka stumbled after being put in, and departed in the 47th. Sangakkara played
the support role in useful stands with Jayawardene and Lokuarachchi, whose 69 from 57 balls was
his first one-day half-century. The last ten overs cost 114, with Maharoof clubbing 27 from nine
balls, including three sixes - Mashrafe bin Mortaza, after an initial spell of 6-2-9-2, was hit for
62 in his last four overs - and the eventual total of 309 was always beyond Bangladesh, despite a
neat 64 from Mohammad Ashraful helping his side to their highest one-day total against Sri Lanka.
Man of the Match: K. C. Sangakkara.
