Australia v India ODI 2000-01

At Gymkhana, Nairobi, October 7

15-Apr-2002
At Gymkhana, Nairobi, October 7. India won by 20 runs.
Toss: Australia.
India shaded a classic match through the deeds of their two youngest players. In his first international innings, 18-year-old Yuvraj Singh displayed astonishing poise, thrashing Australia's star-studded attack for 84 from 80 balls. No other batsman reached 40, though Tendulkar's violent assault on McGrath's new-ball spell gave India much of their momentum. Australia's innings - deducted two overs for a slow over-rate - revealed another budding hero in Zaheer Khan, on his 22nd birthday. Bowling left-arm over at some pace, Zaheer castled Steve Waugh in the 43rd over to curtail a dangerous partnership with Brett Lee, and effectively decide the match. Yuvraj, whose father Yograj played one Test for India, was in the thick of things again, taking a marvellous catch off Harvey and running out Bevan with a direct hit.

Man of the Match: Yuvraj Singh.
