Born in St Vincent and the Grenadines, fast bowler Kesrick Williams made his first-class debut for Windward Islands in March 2011 at the age of 21, against an England Lions side that included Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow and Adil Rashid. He played only one more first-class game for Windward Islands before spending nearly two years out of top-flight domestic cricket.

Williams made a comeback in the 2012-13 season, turning out for Combined Campuses and Colleges. In his first season for CCC, he was part of a team that reached the final of the Regional Super50 List A competition, losing to his former team Windward Islands in the title clash. He took 14 wickets across formats in 2012-13 for CCC. The following season, however, Williams' appearances for CCC were sporadic - he played only two List A and three first-class matches - and he ended up spending another two seasons away from domestic cricket in the West Indies.

His comeback, and the eventual route to his first call-up for West Indies, came through the 2016 Caribbean Premier League. Williams was picked by Jamaica Tallawahs in the 13th round of the draft for $5000 and became a player of immense value for the side. He took 17 wickets at an average of 19.82 and an economy rate of 8.02 to finish as the most successful bowler for Tallawahs and the third highest wicket-taker in the 2016 edition.

In September that year, Williams was called up to the West Indies T20I squad for the series against Pakistan in the UAE, after Andre Russell withdrew due to personal reasons.
